3 Degrees of Freedom (3DOF) |
3 Degrees of Freedom (3DOF) allows hardware and software to track how an object rotates in 3D space, as follows: roll turn (Clockwise/Counterclockwise), yaw turn (Starboard/Port), pitch turn (Looking Up/Looking Down). Read more about 3 Degrees of Freedom
6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) |
6 Degrees of Freedom (6DOF) allows hardware and software to track how an object moves or rotates in a three dimensional space. In the case of 6DOF, how an object is moving up/down, forward/backwards, left/right, and rotate Clockwise/Counterclockwise, Starboard/Port, Looking Up/Looking Down. Read more about 6 Degrees of Freedom
9 Degrees of Freedom (9DOF) |
9 Degrees of Freedom (9DOF) adds more accuracy to the 3DOF using magnetometers. However, it can be argued that it does not add more degrees of freedom. Read more about 9 Degrees of Freedom
Augmented Reality (AR) |
Augmented Reality (AR) is referring to the mix of reality and the virtual world. AR most often is used to enhance the real world experience with overlays of information. Read more about Augmented Reality
Augmented Virtuality (AV) |
Augmented Virtuality (AV) is incorporating real world elements in to the virtual world. As opposed to the other way around in Augmented Reality. Read more about Augmented Virtuality
Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) |
The Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) effort is a joint partnership between the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the European Patent Office (EPO) where the Offices have agreed to harmonize their existing classification systems (European Classification (ECLA) and United States Patent Classification (USPC) respectively) and migrate towards a common classification scheme. Crypto token |
Cryptographic or crypto tokens can be created and distributed in many ways, where the historical data is stored permanently on the blockchain. Different crypto tokens have different purposes, some monetary some utility driven. Read more about Crypto token
Depth Perception |
Depth Perception is the ability to determine objects, near or far, in three dimensional space. Read more about Depth Perception
Extended Reality (XR) |
Extended Reality (XR) is adding any level of virtual world or experience on top of, or replacing the actual reality. Read more about Extended Reality
Field of View (FOV) |
Field of View (FOV) is the range (typically horizontal), measured in geometric degrees, that a person can view the world in front of them. The average person has a horizontal FOV of 200 degrees, whereas a XR headset is typically between 70 and 120 degrees. Read more about Field of View
Fifth Generation Cellular Network (5G) |
5G is the 5th generation of mobile network with the main point being the high transaction speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second. Read more about Fifth Generation Cellular Network
Force Feedback (FFB) |
Force Feedback (FFB) is the sense of resistance that occurs in the virtual world which is translated to the real world. Most commonly used for racing games with the steering wheel. Another example is VR gloves that in some cases have force feedback built in to them to give the sensation of holding objects in the virtual world, while in reality the fingers have restricted the movement of the fingers. Read more about Force Feedback
Frames Per Second (FPS) |
Frames Per Second (FPS) is the speed of which the image is updated on a screen. The higher the frame rate the more fluid the movement is. Most VR experiences target 90 FPS or higher. Read more about Frames Per Second
Haptic |
Haptic is the sense of touch that is simulated by technology. Read more about Haptic
Haptic Gloves |
Haptic gloves simulate the sense of touch on various parts of the hands. Read more about Haptic Gloves
Immersion |
Immersion is about being fully focused on the experience, while the awareness of the reality is forgotten or ignored. Read more about Immersion
Latency |
Latency refers to the time it takes between user input and computer output, this is usually measured in milliseconds (ms). For VR Headset the latency is recommended to be below 7ms to reduce motion sickness. Read more about Latency
Metaverse |
The metaverse is a single virtual reality that runs in paralell with the reality, within this reaility you can visit different metaverse worlds that can look and function very differently from each other. Read more about Metaverse
Metaverse world |
A metaverse world is a virtual place that you can visit within the metaverse, each metavere world has its own functionaly and look, but has in common that you can enter into it as a user and interact with it. Read more about Metaverse world
Mixed Reality (MR) |
Mixed Reality (MR) combines the virtual and real world in to a mixed experience. The virtual world objects will be able to interact with real world objects. Read more about Mixed Reality
Non-fungible token (NFT) |
A non-fungible token (NFT) is a piece of data stored on the blockchain. Unlike under crypto currency types this cannot be devided in to smaller parts, but can be traded or sold. Read more about Non-fungible token
Olfactory |
The olfactory system is the sensory system used for smelling (olfaction). Read more about Olfactory
Omnidirectional Treadmill (ODT) |
Omnidirectional Treadmill (ODT) is one of the most immersive ways of getting around in the virtual world. Differently from a regular treadmill where a user can only walk forward, this enables the user to walk in any direction freely. The direction and speed is translated to input signal for the virtual experience and the character will move accordingly. Read more about Omnidirectional Treadmill
Play-to-Earn |
Play-to-Earn games refer to games which enable the player a chance to win in-game assets which can be converted in to an asset that has real world value. Read more about Play-to-Earn
Slipmill |
Slipmill is one type of VR treadmill used to move around in virtual reality. The user stands on top of a concave slippery surface and is most often attached around the waist or hip to prevent falling over. The user require special shoes or attachment to the shoes which ensures the low friction when walking or running within the parabolic disc surface, and also to track the direction and velocity of the user as a form of input to the virtual experience. Read more about Slipmill

Spatial Audio |
Spatial Audio enables the possibility to perceive sound coming from any direction in 3D space. This is especially important to enhance the immersion in virtual experiences. Read more about Spatial Audio
Virtual Reality (VR) |
Virtual Reality (VR) is a fully virtual experience where a user enters using a head mounted display (VR Headset) to experience and interact with the virtual three dimensional world. Read more about Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality Treadmill (VR Treadmill) |
A Virtual Reality treadmill can have two purposes. The first one is to enhance the immersion in the virtual world as the user is actually walking or running (in place) in the real world, which is displayed as actual movement in the virtual world. The second is as an input device, where every step in the real world is sending a signal to the experience to take one step in the virtual world. There are different types of VR treadmills, such as Omnidirectional VR Treadmill, slipmill. Read more about Virtual Reality Treadmill
